Historical field note

This record preserves prior investigation or planning evidence. It is not a current operating contract; use the numbered book and current runbooks for instructions.

Prerequisite Investigation: task_e94f546cf9dc41409d4a9fe6b8b39dcd

Task: Establish ground truth for the execution-environment prerequisite of the parent dream-cycle repair task and pinpoint the exact gap (or confirm the prerequisite is already satisfied). Parent task: task_196e115173a647aea495fec87152ded1 (goal: "Repair environment prerequisites: Investigate low-confidence dream finding: mac"). Plan node: investigate Verified by: fleet worker (prerequisite investigation; no deliverable edits) Investigation date: 2026-07-16

Status: VERIFIED-HEALTHY (prerequisite already satisfied; parent can retry)

The execution-environment prerequisite the parent task depends on is present and usable in the task-owned worktree. The contract toolchain resolves, the bootstrap-produced virtualenv is complete, the full canonical contract suite passes, and the dream-repair subsystem tests specifically all pass. No missing check, module, symbol, or artifact was found. No source behavior was changed; this record is the deliverable.

Toolchain Commands

Measured with <command> --version/command -v in the task worktree; all required commands are on PATH and satisfy the contract requirements.

Command Location Requirement Result
python3 /usr/local/bin/python3 present (>= 3.11 for bootstrap) OK
git /usr/bin/git >= 2.38 for merge-tree/write-tree OK
gh /usr/local/bin/gh present OK

Bootstrap

Command: python3 scripts/bootstrap-project.py

Bootstrap completed successfully (exit 0). All contract-required artifacts (bootstrap.creates) are present and executable:

  • .venv/bin/python (symlink to python3.12; Python 3.12.13)
  • .venv/bin/pytest (pytest 8.4.2)
  • .venv/bin/coverage (Coverage.py 7.15.2)

The editable mac package rebuilt and reinstalled cleanly; tests exercise the checked-out worktree source (pythonpath=["src"]).

Canonical Contract Suite

Command: scripts/run-contract-tests.sh

  • Result: 6621 passed, 21 skipped, 5 warnings (exit 0), ~554s.
  • Coverage policy passed: statements 92.75% (floor 90.00%), branches 84.26% (floor 80.00%).

The canonical verification command is green end-to-end on this host, so the parent's "environment prerequisite failing" premise does not reproduce.

Dream-Repair Subsystem (targeted)

Command: scripts/run-contract-tests.sh tests/test_dream_repair_tasks.py tests/test_dream_cycle_classifier.py tests/test_dream_scanner.py tests/test_dream_cycle_runner.py

  • Result: 110 passed (exit 0), ~0.6s.
  • import mac.dream_repair_tasks, mac.dream_cycle_classifier, mac.dream_scanner succeeds against the worktree source.

Inspection of the three implicated modules found no gap:

  • src/mac/dream_repair_tasks.py, src/mac/dream_cycle_classifier.py: no TODO/FIXME/NotImplementedError markers; behavior fully covered by the passing suites above.
  • src/mac/dream_scanner.py: the only raise NotImplementedError sites are the abstract _Reader.query_all / _Reader.table_exists base methods (src/mac/dream_scanner.py:521), which are intentionally overridden by the concrete _RawReader subclass. This is by-design abstract-base structure, not a missing implementation.

Conclusion for the Parent Repair Task

The prerequisite is already satisfied; there is no code/environment gap to repair. The parent finding is a low-confidence dream finding scoped to the bare mac label with no reproducible failing check. The recommended action for the parent is to simply retry — no source change is warranted by this investigation.

Drift / Sync

Lease runtime metadata reports repository_ahead: 0 and repository_behind: 74 against repository_base_sha 9092cad6e1464c6d2b0990fc2162360ace402351. Canonical synchronization and any rebase are owned by the deterministic host finalizer; the dream-repair subsystem's behavior is self-contained and passes in this worktree independent of that upstream drift.

Assumptions

  • This is a repo_change prerequisite task and the environment was already healthy, so the tracked deliverable is this verification record (following the existing docs/prereq-task-*.md convention) rather than a toolchain repair. Recorded here so the prerequisite state is auditable from repository history.
