Historical field note

This record preserves prior investigation or planning evidence. It is not a current operating contract; use the numbered book and current runbooks for instructions.

Assessment: task_83f38e9754f64908a316cccba0952329

Task: Investigate — audit src/mac/notifier_service.py coverage against the contract floors and reproduce the parent's environment-prerequisite failure. Parent: task_83e2d77f8c9549518ccfef780bc36415 — "Repair environment prerequisites: Analyze notifier_service.py coverage gap against contract floors" Assessment Date: 2026-07-14 Assessed by: fleet worker (investigation, no source/test edits)

Status: CLOSED — Prerequisite already satisfied; no coverage remediation required

Ground Truth Observed

Measured in the task-owned worktree with the bootstrapped .venv (Python 3.12.13, pytest 8.4.2, coverage 7.15.1; git 2.39.5, gh 2.95.0 present).

1. Module-scoped coverage — src/mac/notifier_service.py

Command: .venv/bin/python -m coverage run --branch --source=mac.notifier_service -m pytest tests/test_notifier_service.py

Metric Value
Tests 87 passed
Statements 240 / 240 covered — 100.00%
Branches 96 / 96 covered — 100.00%
Missing lines none
Missing / partial arcs none

The module is fully covered at both statement and branch granularity. There are no uncovered lines or arcs to add tests for.

2. Full contract suite — scripts/run-contract-tests.sh

Metric Value
pytest result 6290 passed, 21 skipped, 0 failed, 5 warnings (635.32s)
Contract script exit 0 (pass)

scripts/coverage-policy.py output (floors from test-policy.toml: statement 90.0%, branch 80.0%):

coverage safety: statements 48957/52745 (92.82%, floor 90.00%); branches 13868/16452 (84.29%, floor 80.00%)

Aggregate statements 92.82% ≥ 90.00% floor and branches 84.29% ≥ 80.00% floor. notifier_service.py does not appear in the aggregate "missing lines" report — it is among the files skipped for complete coverage.

Comparison to Contract Floors

Check Observed Floor Result
notifier_service.py statements 100.00% (module fully covered) PASS
notifier_service.py branches 100.00% (module fully covered) PASS
Aggregate statements 92.82% 90.00% PASS
Aggregate branches 84.29% 80.00% PASS
Contract test exit 0 0 PASS

Numbers match the task baseline (notifier_service.py 100%/100%; ~6284 passed / 21 skipped; aggregate ~92.79% / ~84.26%) within run-to-run variance.

Finding

  • Is the coverage gap real / reproducible? No. notifier_service.py is at 100% statement and 100% branch coverage. No gap reproduces.
  • Are the contract floors met? Yes. Aggregate statements (92.82%) and branches (84.29%) both clear the 90%/80% safety floors, and the full contract suite passes with exit 0.
  • What remediation is needed? None for coverage or tests. No lines or arcs in notifier_service.py require added/adjusted tests.

Root Cause of the Parent's "Environment-Prerequisite" Failure

The parent failure is not a coverage or test-correctness defect. When the toolchain or bootstrap is intact (python3/git/gh present and the .venv with pytest/coverage created by python3 scripts/bootstrap-project.py), the suite passes and floors are met. The parent's failure signature is attributable to an environment/toolchain state (missing interpreter, missing .venv, or a failed bootstrap) rather than product code. In this worktree the required tools and bootstrap outputs are all present, so the prerequisite appears already satisfied and no environment repair was required here.

Note

This assessment file is the committed deliverable for an investigation-only task. A prior attempt established the same ground truth but failed contract verification because it produced no committed file (repo_change evidence requires changed files). Per the task instruction, no source or test files were modified; generated coverage artifacts (coverage.json, .coverage) remain gitignored.
